  • Substitute half plain yogurt for mayonnaise in dishes like tuna, chicken or egg salad.
  • To prevent marshmallows from drying out, store them in the freezer.
  • Use an egg slicer to cut your kiwi.
  • Sprinkle a small amount of salt in the frying pan before frying bacon. It keeps it from splattering.
  • An easy way to skin garlic cloves! Dry the garlic or baby onions in the sun before using them (or even before storing them). Rub a few drops of oil on your palms. Then rub the garlic or baby onions between your palms. The skin will come off easily.
  • To prevent your eggs from cracking while boiling them, just add a pinch of salt.
  • To sweeten curd that has gone sour whisk in some fresh milk.
  • Halve an onion and insert a fork into one half. Dip the flat side in oil and use it to grease a pan before making pan rolls, etc. The food won’t stick and will drink less oil.
  • While cooking vegetables, cover the pan with a lid and pour a little water on the lid. As the dish simmers, drops of water condense within the lid and fall on to the vegetables. You lose fewer nutrients cooking this way.
  • After rice is boiled, strain off the water and use it in soups and gravies. The residue is extremely nourishing.
  • To reduce the pungent flavor of green chillies slit them and boil in water for two to three minutes before use.

Make the most of family dinners!

Take the family dinner pledge and eat together at the dinner table atleast 4 nights a week. By spending time together as a family you learn what is going on in each others lives. Try to cut out distractions like the TV or the phone(s). Family dinners are a perfect way to teach your children about table manners. It also shows them that family is important and it's okay to talk to each other.

Organize Your Kitchen

*Keep a list of leftover items on your refridgerator door. Your family members are more likely to eat them if they have a visual reminder.

*Go through your kitchen and discard anything that you don't use. Chances are, you're not going to miss it if you haven't used it in a year. This means spices, medications, and any food that is beyond it's expiration date.

*Be sure that your children are not able to reach sharp knives, household cleaning products, medicines, or any other harmful items.
